Game of Thrones Set
After leaving Tangier, our plan was to drive to Marrakech and enjoy the rest of our time there until our return flight to Turkey BUT we found out that a few episodes of Game of Thrones had been filmed in Morocco...not too far from where we were, lol, so we drove to the small town of Ouarzazate to check it out. Ouarzazate is just how I imagined Morocco to be; Palm trees, red sand everywhere and hot. It was different from Marrakech and all the other cities I visited here. I think it was the sand and palm trees, which I hadn't seen anywhere but here. This made me think of The Little Prince, haha.
You guys, how beautiful is this?! It was very dry this year so the river was dead but when it's full and running, I was told it looks stunning.
MAGICAL!
Anyway, we arrived at the set and paid 40 Dirhams or $4 USD to tour it. The set was in the middle of the desert and had been long abandoned by the filmmakers. As we were driving towards it, it looked like we were really driving up to the castle -- it was legit.
Catapult!
It was pretty amazing to see the catapults they used on set, they're huge and were actually functioning. (below)
We finished touring the set in about an hour and started our drive (again) back to Marrakech before the sun set on us.
